This years St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Wednesday 17th March. There will be music in the square from 2pm with “Open the Taps”. Teddy Black will be M.C. The parade will start at 3pm sharp.
The success of the Parade will again largely depend on you the participants as without the huge work and effort you put into your floats it wouldn’t be as entertaining. We do acknowledge and appreciate this voluntary work and effort. We would also encourage as many of you to participate again this year.
We would ask you either to collect a registration form from ‘Cronin’s Hideaway’ and return by email, hand or post before Friday 12th March so we can have an idea of how many to expect, or CLICK on the link below, to directly download an application form. We would ask you to line up on the Easter End of the Pier at 2.15pm where you will be allocated a number in the category you enter into.
If you know an organisation or individual who would like to participate please forward on the form to them or ask them to contact me.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.
If you would like any more information please contact Anne Marie on 087-238-6068

Castletownbere got their season off to a good start by capturing the Tom Creedon cup with a point victory over Ballingeary in Macroom on Sunday afternoon. C.T.B made a whirlwind start and a goal by Lorcan Harrington insured that the town led by 1-7 to 0-4 at half-time. Any idea that this was going to be a runaway victory was soon dispelled, as Ballingeary whittled back the lead to draw level midway through the second half. Five minutes later they were in front.
The momentum seemed to be with Ballingeary at this stage , but remarkably, C.T.B regained their composure to finish strongly, equalising with five minutes remaining and a pointed free, from the hand, by Sean Regan deep in injury time, sealed a famous victory, Castletownbere 1-9 Ballingeary 0-11.
It is the town`s third time winning this competition, having previously won it in 1993 and 1999, and puts them at the top of the roll of honour for cup. Full marks to the Macroom club and the County Board on the manner in which they organised the tournament, the entire competition being run-off over five consecutive week-ends.
Castletownbere’s next game is at home to Ballydesmond on Sunday 28th Feb at 2.30 pm.
Castletownbere has witnessed many funerals in recent times, but few could match that of Michael Harrington, Churchgate, for the sheer number of people who travelled to pay their last respects. Michael died on Monday 15th of February, following an illness borne with grace and fortitude. He was known throughout Beara through his hardware business and his work as an undertaker. In the county at large he would be best known as a hard working member of the Cork County Council. He reached the pinnacle of his political career by serving as Chairman of the Council.
Michael’s passing is deeply mourned by his wife Carmel, sons Donal, Paul and Michael, daughters Majella, Ella and Anne, son-in-law David, daughter-in-law Elaine, grandchildren Harry, Max, Aiden and Olivia, brothers Jerh, John, Fr. Paddy, Bernard, sister Mary, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many many friends.
Our deepest sympathy to Carmel and family.
