Bere Island News Report for May 21st 2013

Bere Island Projects Group Ltd will hold their elections to fill 2 vacancies on Friday 14^th June at the community centre from 9am- 9pm. 3 people will be stepping down: Brendan Murphy, John Orpen and Michael Harrington. Nomination forms have been sent to each member eligible to vote. Please return nomination forms no later than 5pm on Wednesday May 29^th.

Cycle week will be held on Bere Island on June 15th & 16^th. Bring your bike to the Island at reduced rates and explore the Island. June 19th Bike N Beara, bike doctor, will be on the Island to look at your bike, there will also be a family 5 K cycle along the east loop passing the viking harbour and Lonehort fort that evening. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Beara Breifne Walking Trail

Noel Harrington, T.D., for Cork South West, speaking following the Launch of the Beara Breifne Walking Trail, by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny at The Mansion House last night, (Wednesday 16^th May 2013) stated that he was delighted to witness the culmination of years of tireless work come to fruition. The Beara Breifne Way is a walking trail, over 600km in length, running from the Beara Peninsula, County Cork to Breifne, County Leitrim following the line of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beare's march in the aftermath of the Battle of Kinsale in 1602. The route will make use of the Beara Way; Ballyhoura Way; Suck Valley Way; Miner's Way and Historical Trail; Leitrim Way; and Cavan Way.

Castletownbere Development Association Ltd AGM 2013

Castletownbere Development Association Ltd held their AGM on Tuesday 30th April at 9pm in The Forge, Castletownbere.  Chairperson Michael Downey was unable to attend so Vice Chair Noel Forde conducted the meeting on his behalf, beginning by thanking all those in attendance for their support. He then gave a brief outline of the CDA's activities and acheivments throughout the year.

Bere Island GAA will hold a football tournament on Sunday next 5^th May at the pitch, Rerrin, Bere Island. Kick-off is at 12:30pm with the Men’s over 30’s V under 30’s, Women’s under 33’s V over 33’s and children’s games. Entry fee is €5 per person with family discounts available. Presentations and music in the Hotel in the evening. For further information contact David Elphick on 086 8779667. Ferry leaves the Pontoon at 11:30am.

Minister Hogan releases €90 million funding under the LEADER

Minister Hogan releases €90 million funding under the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

Noel Harrington, FG TD for Cork South West, has welcomed the announcement made by The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan T.D, yesterday (24 April 2013),that €90 million funding is being released for the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

Fine Gael Deputy Noel Harrington welcomes the approval given by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, to grant aid Cork County Council under the Fishery Harbours and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme 2013 in respect of the various harbours and piers in West Cork (see Table Below).
